It looks like One Royce Circle, Storrs Center is all sold out with the addition of 3 new businesses coming soon to Storrs Center. Mansfield residents and students will be excited about the new and interesting additions.
GBS Threading & Spa is bound to be very popular offering eyebrow threading and henna tattoos. This is the seventh location for GBS, the first opening in Trumbull in 2007. Eyebrow threading is wildly popular in other areas and is just making its way to the Mansfield area. The spa will also offer manis, pedis, facials waxing and eyelash extensions.
Inevitably, a package store, Storrs Wine & Spirits, has claimed a spot in the heart of Thirsty Thursday Center. Although the press release promotes a rather contrived version of student alcohol purchases and consumption, i.e., “libations…wine pairings…special occasion bottles” hopefully its presence there won’t be to the detriment of sober patrons and residents of Storrs Center.
Lastly ThinkitDrinkit, a cafe-style retail store, is brand new venture featuring personalized powdered drink beverage products. Sounds interesting. Hopefully not trendy with a shorter than average life span. Here is part of the copy of the press release:
ThinkitDrinkit helps customers achieve optimal health, energy, and life performance through customized personal nutrition. Its powdered beverage products address personal health needs for both physical and mental optimization. All products are developed in efficacious doses to meet individual health goals for both short-term and long-term benefits. “We are thrilled to be opening our flagship retail space in Storrs Center,” says Mr. Gryk. “This first-to-market venture offers a suite of nutritional supplements in a digital café-like setting, where function and personalization take the spotlight. Our high-tech interactive environment puts product customization in the hands of the consumer.
Look for the UConn Medical Center at Storrs Center to open in December 2013.
The center will be run and staffed by faculty at the UConn Health Center and Hospital in Farmington. In a press release, Howard Kaufman of LeylandAlliance, the master developer of Storrs Center said that there may be medical offices in Storrs Center affiliated with Windham Hospital. This was interesting and welcome as I have heard rumblings that the Windham Hospital community is not wild about the UConn Health Center opening at Storrs Center.
Additionally, the center was just approved for a full-service dental clinic which is scheduled to open in February 2014. Dental services have not been available at the UConn infirmary so this new addition will be filling a need for students and faculty who have had to travel to Farmington for dental services. The clinic is described as having an education component but they are careful to say that faculty will be working on people’s teeth, not students!
