The addition of 195 apartments at The Oaks on the Square on the upper floors of One Royce Circle will bring the total residents of One & Nine Dog Lane and One Royce Circle to 620 residents. There is space for 10 businesses at ground level at One Royce Circle and some are expected to open in the next few months and according to the Mansfield Downtown Partnership, there are other businesses interested in the remaining space.
Opening soon at One Royce Circle, Storrs Center:
Webster Bank will be opening their first Mansfield location and their 169th location overall. They will offer full service banking along with Husky student checking and Husky debit cards and it appears that they will be a major sponsor of UConn alumni & athletic campus events such as Homecoming & Alumni Weekend.
Haru Aki is expected to open in September will be serving authentic Japanese street fare, a small plates/ tapas menu, sushi, and a build your own tea menu and will also offer Saturday morning workshops featuring different cultural experiences, such as sushi rolling and dumpling making. The creators of Haru Aki are three childhood friends, Thomas Wang, Jessica Chiep and Ron Liu, all West Hartford natives and UConn alumni.
The UConn Co-op @ Storrs Center will be adding 15,000 square feet of display space at Storrs Center where they will relocate their trade books and art supplies section, and lease space to the Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry. The Ballard Institute will share the event space for performances and craft talks and the Co-op will use the space for author signings and readings. There will also be a café adding to the food choices at Storrs Center.
UConn Health Center will also have 18,000 feet of space on the ground floor of One Royce Circle and will offer out patient lab services, a radiology suite, an urgent care clinic and more.
I would like to see more retail offerings at Storrs Center. I think the UConn Co-op will fill some of that void with it’s book store and gift selection. The new Price Chopper will round out the offering with groceries and staples for residents nearby.
I recently escorted a family that will be relocating to take a position at UConn next year. I have to say, I was impressed that, in what has traditionally been our “small town”, I could bring them to our “downtown” in Storrs , where we could eat in the restaurants, take a leisurely stroll, and park in the parking garage. Times they are a changing in Storrs.
