One Royce Circle in Storrs Center will have new tenants come the 2013 fall semester at UConn.
Webster Bank is expected to open in August 2013 and offer full service banking along with the Husky student checking account and Husky debit cards. The UConn Co-op and the UConn Health Center will also have locations on the ground floor of One Royce Circle and The Oaks on the Square will have additional apartments to rent on the upper floors.
Haru Aki, expected to open in September 2013, will be serving authentic Japanese street fare, sushi and a build your own tea menu and will also offer Saturday morning workshops featuring different cultural experiences, such as sushi rolling and dumpling making. Haru Aki is the product of three childhood friends and UConn alumni. Their facebook page has been launched but there is limited information there at the moment.
Geno’s Grille has been doing soft openings for the last couple of days . A peek at their facebook page reveals some very good looking entrees and menu items. No word yet on an official Grand Opening.
Don’t be discouraged by the appearance of the construction at Storrs Center. It is easy in and out even around the barricades and roads under construction and parking is not a problem. There is free parking at Storrs Center . The Dog Lane Parking Lot is free with a 2-hour limit. The Parking Garage is free for the first 2 hours and $1.00/hour after.
The growing selection of restaurants at Storrs Center is a welcome treat for those who were resigned to the pizza and wings offerings at UConn. The foot traffic seems decent for the eateries , anytime you drive or walk by Dog Lane Cafe they seem to be at capacity. One thing still lacking at Storrs Center is retail/shopping to generate more foot traffic, lingering and spending . I would love to see an Urban Outfitters, an REI, Gap, or Banana Republic to round out the offerings at Storrs Center.
